i suggest those of us in knitting and fandom, even if we cannot donate money, can show our support by knitting him scarves or hats.
part of the story is that he was kept in unheated jail cells, and then thrown out into a Canadian snowstorm, without even his coat. and the poor man will have to come back to this country to deal with the charges..
i am kind of broke. but i can knit a show of support!

Alright, here's the scoop.  My beloved fiance deploys to Iraq in 3 days.

Not ten minutes ago, he sends me a text saying, "Make me a Freddy Krueger sweater!  Now!  Please!"  And he's serious.  Apparently Hot Topic sells them for $36.

This is what he wants as a welcome home present, a year from now, when he gets back.  He wants me to wear it around after I finish it, until he gets home, to help it look appropriately ratty.

My question to you lovelies is this:

Has anyone made a Freddy Krueger sweater?  If so, what yarn brand/colors did you use, and what pattern?

Prease?  Franks!!!!

Any sort of help is appreciated!

Hi, guys! I'm new in these parts, but I've got a question for all of y'all.

My friend's got a birthday coming up (and there's always Hannukah after that, lol!) and she's a HUGE fan of Final Fantasy: VII. She also loves fiber craft, but hasn't the patience to make it for herself.

So here's my question: has anyone got a pattern for something FFVII? I'm not a very talented knitter--my skill set is kinda all over the place. I can read (and mostly follow) patterns, and I've mastered "basic" knitting skills, but I'm not yet capable of intarsia, cabling, or anything involving more than 4 needles.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Austin Browncoat's 2nd Annual Jayne Hat Knit-a-Thon will be held during Dragon*Con this year from September 4th-7th.  Our own Ma Cobb, Claudia, knit an impressive 12 Jayne hats during last year's Knit-a-Thon, raising $1000 in pledges benefiting The Kids Need to Read Foundation (KNTR).  She's at it again at Dragon*Con 2009!  Claudia will be knitting during all hours of the con this year, and pledges can be made either at the Austin Browncoats booth or via the Knit-a-Thon website, http://www.austinbrowncoats.com/Jaynehats.  In addition to pledging at the site, you can keep up to date with Claudia's progress with daily photos and progress logs.  Join us in cheering Claudia on and see just “how many Jayne hats can be knit at Dragon*Con?”  All proceeds will benefit KNTR.

Want to use that innate artistic ability you know you possess to do charity work? We know you do! Austin Browncoats are in need of knitters and individuals to paint Kaylee parasols.  This just might be the creative, charity outlet you're seeking.

Okay, this may be a little silly, but...

I made a Spock Clanger.

(If you don't know who the Clangers are, go here. If you don't know who Spock is, go here.)

Apologies if this deviates too much, but I thought there might be some people here who'd appreciate this weird combo.

I used pennyplainknit's Stargate Gate Glyphs pattern to knit a pair of wristwarmers as a gift for a friend. I figured out the pattern for the wristwarmers myself and I'll share if anyone is interested.

It was my first time using duplicate stitching, and I think it turned out really well!
