NaKniSweMo help needed  
i am doing a themed sweater "Gunpowder"  its sort of based on the idea of Guy Fawkes day.....

any ideas of stitch patterns to represent skyrockets, explosions, or etc?
and any bright ideas for edge finishes? i dont know if ruffles will go with the yarn. its Noro Aurora as a base yarn.

I'm sad to say that I don't have any suggestions, but that sounds really cool (and warm!). I'd love to see pictures of it once it's done.

You might consider single stitch cable lines (look for patterns that make tree branches). You could always just embroider it on after the sweater is done. And possibly add beads on the end of each 'ray' of the explosion.

Okay - I have beads on the brain. I am to the last twenty rows of a shawl pattern called 'Shipwreck'. The center has leaves (to resemble seaweed), and the outer section is an openwork stitch with beads scattered through it (sun on the waves).
